This training aims at developing skills in Early Years Educators that would promote Sustained Shared Thinking amongst young children. Sustained Shared Thinking is a concept when a child works closely with an adult to solve a problem, find out more about an activity or a concept.
However, rather than an adult acting as an authoritarian, in SST the adult engages with the child in a much more natural way, gently leading discussions through open-ended, positive questioning in a manner that is likely to allow a child to express themselves more fully and explore boundaries safely.
Training includes:
- Understanding sustained shared thinking
- Theories
- How Practitioners can enter into SST with children by showing genuine interest in and enjoyment of children’s achievement,
- Asking open-ended questions to support and progress the learning,
- Most importantly providing the framework for children to achieve or succeed.
